What is World Wide Blog Jam?

World Wide Blog Jam (WWBJ) is an online collaboration tool that allows musicians the ability to create music by recording their tracks in their own studios and uploading them into the project, thus removing geographic barriers between musicians all over the world. All you need is a home studio, which can be as simple as a mic and recording software, a broadband connection, and the desire to collaborate on open source music projects.

How does it work?

Once you sign up, you setup your profile and upload an Audition Track in MP3 format. Your Audition Track can be any MP3 that shows your ability. If you are uploading an MP3 in which you are performing with a group, be sure to identify which instrument/track is you.

Once you mark your profile as public, it shows up under the Browse Profiles area and other members can listen to, but not download, your Audition Track. They can then invite you into their projects, which allows you to download the project tracks to load into your recording software and record your track. You then export your isolated track as an MP3 and upload it to the project. Other members of the project can now download your track and add it to their mixes.

Eventually one of the mixes that are uploaded can be designated as the "Final Mix" and can be published to the WWBJ Radio, which plays published tracks from WWBJ members to all visitors. You can, of course, start your own project by uploading an MP3 of the Master Reference Track (MRT) and inviting others into your project. The MRT also serves as the Audition Track for the project.

Welcome to the world of open source music. Let's jam!
